Articles and the TV reporter

There were lots of articles written after TV journalist Catherine Bosley entered a competition in 2003. She seemed to enjoy herself at the event. After photos turned up on the web, though, she resigned from her position at a TV station in Youngstown, Ohio. Word was that she's hosting a drive time show on a radio station, but its web site doesn't list her, so she must have moved on.

404 - bye bye

Perhaps it's fitting that this is post # 404, since 404 is the "not found" error message you get when a web file is not there.

That's because I am shutting down Brain Capacity for good. After 400 posts in 2005 and 2006, I went on hiatus to do other stuff, with just three posts added in 2007. Now, here it is, the first day of 2008, and I'm turning out the lights.

I'll leave the entries on blogspot.com for awhile. My thousands of readers would deserve that much, at least. But despite the tearful, and I should say moving, requests, demands and entreaties to begin posting again, I must politely decline. I'm too busy with other stuff - completing three doctorates, planning a major round-the-world trip, writing two screenplays and a novel, helping guide world peace talks etc.

Ha ha. No. I just have other stuff to do. I'm sure you will find other much more important and worthwhile stuff to read in the blogosphere.

Adieu.

Articles 14: the ad campaign

The advertising business is always coming up with new techniques. Ovelle Pharmaceuticals, the Irish maker of Elave skin care products, recently launched an innovative campaign to promote its wares. The products are free of harsh chemicals such as sodium laureth sulfate, parabens and perfumes, which can trigger skin flare-ups.

There have been a lot of articles written about the web advertising campaign. Nothing to Hide has nothing to hide, as you will see if you check out the site here. A 60-second clip is here.

The managing director of the company, Joanna Gardiner, makes a cameo appearance in the video. (But she's not the host of the clip, as some articles have mistakenly stated.)

Apparently sales have risen significantly since the campaign was launched about a month ago. Unfortunately, you can't purchase Elave items in North America.

40th anniversary

It's been four decades since the release of the Beatles' monumental and influential Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

Here in 2007, 40 years later, it might not be obvious to some how important this album was (and is), and how much impact it had on the music and social scene of the 1960s and the Summer Of Love.

Though it's not my favourite Beatles LP, I still think this is one heck of a record. I wrote about it in my album spotlight last year. As I said then, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is so much a statement of its time, yet it still reverberates through the world of music four decades after its debut."

back again / 401 / carefree highway

At long last, Brain Capacity resumes publication. I could tell you that I've spent the last five months travelling the world, seeing exotic sites, jetsetting with the rich and famous ... But I won't because it's not true. I've just been busy with life.

This is the 401st post to this blog, so I have to refer to the freeway that is often called "the main street of southern Ontario" - the McDonald-Cartier Freeway, more commonly known as Highway 401.

Luckily, I don't have to drive on this road every day to commute to work. But it is a great throughway, though it's pretty busy these days. You can see highway views of the GTA at the COMPASS Traffic Cameras site. There's also a thorough article about the highway at Wikipedia.

Hiatus | 400 | Index

Brain Capacity is on hiatus.

Please check again
later.

This post, my 400th entry to Brain Capacity, will be my last for awhile. I have really enjoyed posting my (non) thoughts here. The album and song spotlights have been my most regular type of entry. I've shared my love of all things related to the Beatles, ELO / Jeff Lynne, Guess Who / Bachman / Cummings and other classic rock heroes. I've also posted write-ups on cameras and cars; revealing posts about articles; occasional political rants; and many, many lists, including: dog names; TV stations in Illinois; electronics stores in Saskatchewan, Utah or Ireland; hospitals in New Zealand; cities in France and Argentina; KFC locations in Australia; scientific and cultural topics; Star Trek; and so many other useless subjects.

I originally planned to keep Brain Capacity running for a year. I have done that, with 10 preview posts in 2005, and 390 in 2006 – an average of just over one post a day. It has been swell. I am taking a bit of a break from posting for now. But beware ... I will return. Probably. Maybe.

As a way of noting all that I have posted here, I leave you with a complete index of all the posts to Brain Capacity.

Burton Cummings at 59

Today’s birthday goes to Burton Cummings, who turns 59. Rock on, man.

It’s been great having him work with Randy Bachman again. There’s more to look forward to in 2007. Some completely new music would be most appreciated, but I’m not holding my breath.

Penultimate day

The word penultimate actually means "second to last".

So this day, December 30, is actually the penultimate day of 2006.

Jeff Lynne at 59

My music hero Jeff Lynne turns 59 today. Rock on, man.

It’s been great having ELO remasters streaming out once again. There’s more to look forward to in 2007. Some completely new music would be most appreciated, but I’m not holding my breath.

Jeff, I hope you have a great birthday, and a great 2007.

Unlikely compilation

I never intended for the songs from the Song Spotlight to be a collection of songs. But I have made a playlist featuring the 52 highlighted songs. It's more than three hours of great music.
