Moon unit (1)

I read in the paper today that NASA plans to establish a permanent base on the moon within 20 years.

The base would probably be located at one of the poles (probably the south) to maximize exposure to sunlight, for solar power.

Most of the Apollo landings were within about 10 degrees of the equator, with Apollo 15 being the most northerly at about 26 degrees N.

Here are the dates and locations of the Apollo landing sites. Interestingly, there are slight discrepancies in the latitude and longitude readings given on various web sites.
  • Apollo 11, July 20, 1969, Sea of Tranquility
  • Apollo 12, November 19, 1969, Ocean of Storms/Known Sea
  • Apollo 14, February 5, 1971, Fra Mauro
  • Apollo 15, July 30, 1971, Hadley Rille
  • Apollo 16, April 20, 1972, Descartes Highlands
  • Apollo 17, December 11, 1972, Taurus-Littrow
You can see the sites pinpointed on a Google map.
