S$# 025 Randy Bachman | Our Leaves Are Green Again
Randy Bachman's 2004 album, JazzThing, may seem a long way from his classic rock hits of The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive. But he's always had some jazz leanings.
Our Leaves Are Green Again, the closing track on the album, builds on Randy's jazz influences, and shows how far he's come as a musician working for more than four decades to hone his art and his craft.
The song is co-written by Randy with pianist Stephan Moccio, who performs the only instrumentation. That's right; there's no Bachman guitar on this track, just his voice.
The simple arrangement suits the lyrics, which also reveal the maturity of a man in his 60s:
A performance of the song is featured on Randy's new DVD, JazzThing Live In Toronto. Also, he and Burton performed it on their recent TV special, First Time Around.

Seems the birds have flown
And the leaves are brown
And the world is turning grey
Will my aching heart ever sing again
Always wanting yesterday
All I got to do is close my eyes
All I got to do is want your touch
Only in a dream can I pretend
That our leaves are green again
As the years go by
We are satisfied with the embers of our love
As the pieces fall sweeter memories call
And the angels smile on us
...
Comes the last page where the story ends
And our leaves are green again
